My descent
In 2020, I turned toward birth. I thought I wanted to go deeper into the jungle with my studies of plant consciousness and indigenous technologies. But there was something else. I initially couldn’t think of anything else that I trusted more than the language and healing of the plants.
It was in a plant medicine ceremony, that I remembered where so much of humanity’s deepest wounds were formed; birth.
I then started to recognize the desperate attempts at rebirth in medicine space, in yoga, in nature, in retreats, in cleanses and detoxes. I became curious about each journeyer’s birth and or relationship with their womb, procreation as well as their fertility.
All this and much more has led me to this moment of birthkeeping from a vitalist lens and a trust in the physiological process.
Birth philosophy
Being born is the first experience a human has with the world, with safety, with warmth, with nourishment, with trust.
Birthing has the capacity to be one of the great transformations and initiations a woman and her guardians can experience.
Both birthing and being born should be held within trust, within community, and with intact allyships with the elements, ancestry and guardians of the Earth. The impressions of this support or lack thereof continue to form in the first hours, days, months, years and in generations to come.
